Louisiana Women Veterans
Louisiana Women Veterans
We are Louisiana Women Veterans and we are comprised of female veterans representing the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force and Coast Guard. We are from all ranks…. brigadier general to private. We have women who have served in WWII, Korean Conflict, Vietnam War, Desert Storm, etc.
Our mission is to stand as “Honor Guard Details” at any woman veterans funeral across the State of Louisiana. We read a poem honoring that veterans service and present a copy of it in a beautiful frame to each of the immediate family members. Then we render the “Final Salute” from Louisiana Women Veterans. If the military is not present…then we become the official Honor Guard Detail, we do the folding of the flag, presentation of the flag and blowing “Taps”.
We also do presentations educating the public on what women in the Military have done, are doing and will do in service to our country. In the past, we have done presentations to civilian organizations, military organizations, schools and colleges.
We do uniform displays and pictures displays of women who have honorably served in our military services. We do an annual display of Women In the Military at the Jones Creek Library in the month of November. We have also brought our displays to the WWII Museum in New Orleans, highlighting the Women of WWII.
We also support our active duty military during deployments by sending care packages to our female servicemembers.
One of our most favorite outreach is going to the Veterans homes across the State of Louisiana and visiting with our heroes who are residents in each home.
We meet at the Piccadilly Cafeteria, 3332 S. Sherwood Forest Blvd on the 1st Saturday of each month. We welcome any honorably discharged female veteran to come and join us.
